| We have shown using microfabrication that bacteria can use the physical boundaires of the environment in conjunction with chemotaxis to enhance their local concentration. As an example of this local enhancement, we have shown how topology coupled with chemotaxis can lead to an enhancement of population density in enclosed areas. The complex environments designed here show how bacteria signal to and find each other in the presence of topologies encountered outside a swarm plate. |
