Current Projects

As of spring, 2006, I am working on a book about Japanese Temple Geometry with Hidetoshi Fukagawa. We expect to be finished later this year. It will be published by Princeton University Press. Most of my waking moments for the past three years were spent at work on a large historical novel about the Great Siege of Malta. I have posted an excerpt on my home page. Currently I am seeking a publisher.

A projected workshop of my play Plausibility fell through due to lack of funds. It was due to be directed by Tom O'Horgan, the director of the original Broadway productions of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Lenny etc. The play revolves around George Antheil's and Hedy Lamarr's supposed invention of what is now termed "spread spectrum" technology, which provides the basis for secret communication.

Since writing Plausibility I have written another play, the Firey Angel, which has not yet received a reading. A few years earlier, in January 1997, Tom O'Horgan directed a reading of my play Melisande, which concerns Debussy, Satie and the creation of modern music. F. Murray Abraham read Satie.

Another project that did not see the light of day was a novel entitled Firebird, which was s scientific suspense novel set in a large, ficitious fusion lab on the outskirts of Austin. Firebird was meant to be commercial rather than a great work of art, but hopefully thoughtful. I have uploaded the front material and first chapter.

A long standing concern is whether science can enhance one's worldview and whether science can provide the basis for artistic creations. To this end, I occasionally collect plays on science,. Someday I may edit an anthology.
